Our flagship dish is the lahmacun. Inspired by the approach of Amsterdam’s lahmacun sensation Effendy, we aim to introduce a premium-quality lahmacun to Brussels’ food scene.
Lahmacun is often mistakenly referred to as a “Turkish pizza” and confused with pide, but it is an entirely different product. It consists of a thin flatbread topped with a savoury mixture of herbs, vegetables and, depending on the variation, meat. Baked in a hot oven, it is traditionally served fresh and warm, then rolled up much like the more familiar dürüm, with a choice of toppings such as fresh vegetables, sauces and even cheese. Light yet satisfying, lahmacun naturally lends itself to different moments throughout the day — from lunch and early dinner to a late-night snack alongside a soft drink or a pint.
Lahmacun is by no means unknown in Brussels. Particularly in Saint-Josse and Schaerbeek, but in fact wherever Turkish bakeries can be found, it is a popular quick bite. Usually served “avec salade tout” and a generous spoonful of andalouse sauce, it often ends up being categorised as fast food. That is unfortunate, because in Turkey — especially in and around the region of Gaziantep — lahmacun is considered a delicacy and a fully-fledged restaurant dish.
Our ambition is to return to the lahmacun’s roots and introduce the depth, richness and craftsmanship of authentic Gaziantep-style lahmacun to a wider Brussels audience.
